YA book review: When We Collided by Emery Lord
When We Collided by Emery Lord
Vivi has just moved into the idyllic seaside town of Verona Cove with her artist mom, and stumbles into a job at a craft studio. At first, Vivi is outgoing and personable, especially when she meets the charmingly good-looking, but very serious Jonah. In alternating chapters, we see the story from both Jonah and Vivi’s perspectives. Jonah’s dad recently died, and Jonah is doing everything he can to take care of his younger siblings and the family restaurant while his mother sinks deeper into depression. Meanwhile Vivi, despite her effervescent personality, is in denial about her bipolar disorder and she’s been tossing her meds into the ocean. That doesn’t bode well for the budding summer love between Jonah and Vivi, or for vivi’s ability to make rational decisions.. This is an engaging read and you very well might need a box of kleenex before it’s over.
