Garden Update March 16, 2018

Tomorrow is Saint Patrick's Day, and I was tempted to hold this post until then based on all the green going on in the nursery / green house / my son's unoccupied bedroom.

Last Sunday, the 10th, I got a new shipment of flimsy brown six inch pots. I was hoping to buy more of the ones I already had, but they were no longer available. These seem to be fine so far. They are flimsy, but they don't crack. They also pop right back into the right shape when they do get smashed (not that I did it on purpose, but they aren't easy to pull apart).

With the new pots, I transferred about 20 more of the Jiffy Pellets with jalapeƱos, tomatoes, tomatillos, and bell peppers.  That freed up one of the many 72 count seed pellet trays for another round of seeds. In there I started new starts of Dark Galaxy tomatoes, slow bolt cilantro, rosemary, thyme, and pickling cucumbers. Five days later, we had noticeable starts on the thyme.
Thyme comes first! Five days after planting seeds we've got sprouts.

The rest of the garden is getting big. We purposefully planted in stages, with the hope of rotating about 20 of the cool weather plants outside in the next week or so.  The lettuces and cabbage are ready to go (I hope), and we definitely need more space on the tables. Many of the tomato starts that have two or three active vines per pot need to be separated again for their own pot before the roots tangle. The top leaves are certainly starting to grab one another when we rotate the pots for sunshine!
