YA Book Review: The Shadow Queen by C.J. Redwine

The Shadow Queen by C.J. Redwine is a retelling of the Snow White and the Huntsman story for young adults.
Lorelai is the crown princess, and has secret magical abilities. She’s also part dragon. And she is a fugitive from her own kingdom.
Queen Irina used her magic to kill Lorelai’s father, the king, and take the crown of Ravenspire. Now Lorelai is on the run, seeking the assistance of the neighboring kingdom of Eldr to take her rightful throne.
In Eldr, teenaged Kol has just ascended to the throne unexpectedly. Kol feels tremendously unprepared for ruling, and knows the only way to save his kingdom from being over-run by ogres is by using magic.
Kol makes a deal with Queen Irina where she’ll use her magic to save his kingdom if he bring her Lorelai’s heart.
But what Kol doesn’t expect is that Lorelai is exceptional in all ways, and despite his deal with the evil Queen Irina, he wants to help Lorelai.
Kol is the huntsman, Irina is Snow White, and it’s an intricate retelling of a story we know well. The Shadow Queen by C.J. Redwine
