Foodie Post: Tokyo Sushi: Old Market, Omaha Nebraska

I visited Tokyo Sushi late on a Thursday night, about an hour before they closed. The restaurant is in downtown Omaha's charming Old Market district. Like many of the restaurants here, the decor is modern and upscale.
Being so close to the end of service on a weeknight, the restaurant only had a few diners. When I was able to place an order (more on that a bit later) the food came quickly. I sampled a variety of sushi rolls: California, Hawaii, Alaska, Philadelphia, and spicy Salmon, as well as an order of teriyaki chicken. The slices were thicker than I've had at other restaurants, making the bites both a bit awkward to eat and much more filling. Overall, the sushi was fresh and had good flavor. The Philadelphia and California rolls were as expected an on-par with what I've had at other restaurants. The standout of the group was the spicy salmon roll, which had a wonderful blend of flavor and spice. The Hawaii roll also stood out among the group.
For the quality, the rolls were less expensive than other sushi restaurants I've dined at in other cities, and the portions were bigger. The biggest surprise, and disappointment, was the service.
Despite there being only a couple of tables with diners and a half-dozen wait staff, drink refills were hard to get and I had to try very hard to flag down a waitress to order more food.  Even then, it seemed the waitress didn't want to send another order back to the kitchen. Granted, it was late on a Thursday night. But it was still 20 minutes before closing, and in my view-- as the diner with all sorts of restaurant options to choose from-- if you say you're open till 10, that means your kitchen (or sushi line) can make food until then. The service was the one knock I have of Tokyo Sushi. The staff was friendly enough and the restaurant is very clean and comfortable.
