Non-fiction review: The Great Wall of China: photographs of Chen Changfen

This book surprised me with its very subtle power.  The photographs are exceptional, but the text and interview with Chen Changfen about the history of the wall and his approach to the photographs should be considered art in and of themselves.  The book could be shelved in a number of areas: photography, art, or more appropriately Chinese history. A tremendous resource for students looking for more information about China and the famous wall, this book gives rare glimpses at the wall seldom seen by tourists-- especially from an era when China was closed to outsiders.  Outstanding.
